Posthumous Civic Award for Harlow artist Valerie Fitz-John who designed Remembrance poppies

A CIVIC award has been bestowed posthumously to Harlow artist Valerie Fitz-John.
Valerie passed away late last year.
The award was announced at a special meeting of Harlow Council on Wednesday night.
The civic award was made by the leader of Harlow Council, cllr Maggie Hulcoop.
The presentation could only be made virtually and the certificate has been handed to the family.
You may not have heard of Valerie but you will know of her work.
Valerie was the artist behind the poppy display that cascaded down from the Harlow Council building at The Water Gardens.
Valerie also made the Remembrance mural at the British Legion on Harlow Common.

Valerie has left an indelible mark on the town.
