Full Report on U21 side on victory over Sawbo U21’s at Marigolds yesterday.

MAX lost the toss but we got what we wanted when Sawbo invited us to bat. The youngest (Joe) and the oldest (Riz) opened the batting and got us off to an express start with 20 off the first 3 overs before Joe missed a straight one. Riz batting like he had a train to catch kept up the momentum until he also missed a straight one with the score on 40. Ben and Max kept up the pressure being severe on any rubbish and circumspect with the straight ones. Max went with the score on 90. First Ollie (7) then Ben Seary (23) kept Ben company as the score continued to mount at a decent rate.

Ben Yeats started to take the upper hand and increased the tempo further, completing a fabulous century off just 88 balls, finishing with 117 off 92 balls, thanks to some busty lows off some inauspicious pies served up by Matt Billings in our last over. A challenging 226 off 35 overs was a decent return for Harlow’s young side.

Late replacement Matt Hart (thanks !) opened the bowling with Miles and kept it tight early making the task for Sawbo even harder, wickets fell at regular intervals thanks to some smart catching and very straight bowling. Matt’s 2-12 set the scene. Tyler, as ever, was tough to get away, his 8 overs only going for 23 runs, helping to put Sawbo well behind the clock.

Our secret weapon was 3rd change spinner Matt Fisk. With tidy control and great support in the field Matt ripped the heart out of the Sawbo batting taking 5 for 31 in 7 overs. Miles finished with 2-31 including the dangerous Billings for just 5. Apart from a hard hit 61 from Andy Foster Sawbo had little reply to Harlow’s youngsters who ran out comfortable 77 run winners and regained the Howick/Hansford Cup in the process.

We go again next week against the same opposition 1.30 start at Marigolds.
