The community group that is rocking all over Harlow

OVER the last couple of years, we have seen a lot of posts on social media regarding the Harlow Rocks.

When you walk around town, you may see these rocks, dotted about the place.

So we asked a member of the Harlow Rocks to tell us a little bit more about themselves.

A spokesperson said “We are a free community group, where children and adults are encouraged to paint, design and seal rocks, which are then taken out and hidden in the local Harlow area.

Our main hub for hiding is Harlow Town Park, but many people hide in their local areas too.

“We have grown to a community of over 3000 members.

In the last year we have designed rocks for a local care home so they could have a rock garden to enjoy.

We have a monthly challenge rock where the finder is encouraged to post their find on Facebook and they then receive a certificate.

On Easter Monday, we held an Easter rock drop in the Town Park by the bandstand, where we had between 150-200 people attend and over 700 rocks.

“We placed the rocks in piles of ten and encouraged children to grab a pile and go off into the park to hide them.

They then hide and find rocks for as long as they want. They could then take them home to hide another day or keep.

“We are currently planning a rock painting competition with four local schools, who will go head to head with each other.

“Our admin team will vote a winner and some runners up, who will receive prizes.

“We also have another rock drop planned on Bank Holiday Monday 29th of August at the bandstand in Town Park.

We welcome anyone to join, a member of our Facebook group or not.
