Did the vandals win? A year later, why have the basketball hoops at Nicholls Field not been repaired?

IN APRIL 2021, we ran a story detailing how the basketball courts on Nicholls Field had been vandalised.
At the time, a spokesperson for Harlow Council said: “We are determined that the vandals won’t win and we will be replacing the hoops as soon as we can so local residents can use the basketball courts to stay fit and active.”
One year later, they have still not been replaced.
This week, a Harlow Council spokesperson said: “The hoops and posts will be replaced shortly as part of the estate renewal fund programme. Unfortunately, it isn’t just the hoops that need replacing, but also the posts and backboards.”
Some might say, that promises of new town centres and world class cycle tracks are somewhat undermined if, a year on, three basketball hoops can’t be repaired.
I'm sad about the hoops but I see the actual basketball area used frequently by kids and adults just practicing football having a kickabout so it does see use even if there is no actual hoops!
Vandals and thieves always win, the system is there for them, not us.
