BEBE Jackson was one of six U20 para athletes selected to represent GB at the Italian leg of the Para World Series Tour. The event was held in Jesolo, close to the city of Venice. She was selected for both the 100m and 200m and whilst she has competed at home international competitions for GB, this was her first oversees event.

She was not fazed by the experience and ran two excellent races. On Friday night, she ran in the 100m and won the race in a time of 14.64s, just outside her 14.40s PB. On Sunday morning, she was in 200m action. She ran an impressive bend, eating up the ground and overtaking her competitors but couldn’t hang on for victory in the final few metres of the race as home favourite, Ambra Sabatini, clawed back the gap to take victory. Sabatini’s time of 29.87s was a world record for her category (T63). Jackson’s time of 30.38s was just eight one hundredths outside of her PB.

As a result of these two performances, Jackson has been invited to take part in an Italian Federation event, in Rome on Thursday and Friday, to provide competition for Sabatini. If both athletes progress into the senior ranks successfully they can look forward to many more battles on the track.
