Athletics: European qualification for Andrew Kitson among highlights for Innovation Multisport

MEMBERS were out in force this weekend taking on so many different challenges.

Coach Andrew Kitson took part in the ETU Spront Triathlon at Eton Dorney to try and qualify for next year’s European Championships. This involved a 0.75km open water swim, a 21.2k bike ride and a 5k run. Finishing in a fantastic overal time of 1.09.50, 93/449 and 8th/21 in age cat 45-49 picked up an automatic qualification!

Jon Waight also made his debut at the event with an excellent overal time of 1.19.10 and came  5th/41 in age cat M50+, finishing with the words…’I wish I’d done this years ago!’ 

Liz Coxall embarked on The Jurassic Coast Challenge, 58k along the coastal path starting at Corfe Castle, past Swanage, Durdle Dor and on to Weymouth taking in the beautiful views conquered the relentless hills in 14hr56min raising money for Pancreatic Cancer in memory of her Mother-In-Law.


Over on the Norfolk coast The Mammoth Marathon was in full swing after being cancelled back in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. This was Norfolks first road marathon in 30yrs starting in Sea Palling, pasing Cromer and finishing in Sheringham. Kelly Burgess ran her 44th marathon in 4.23.59.  Oliver Skipper overcome some calf issues at mile 16 to finish in 4.55.04 and just behind him Dawn Shaw finished in 4.55.39. 

Meanwhile back in Essex some members were taking to their bikes for the charity Ride For Helen, a multi distance open road bike ride. Simon Couper, Dave Nicholas, Louise Peacock and Tracie Cook all cycled 65+miles in preperation for RideLondon in a couple of weeks.

Across the water, Innovation Multisport’s international member Julianne Noonan took part in The Independence Sprint Aquabike, a 750m swim and 20k bike ride. Finishing in 1st place in 1.11.12.
The club also had lots of members at 10 different parkruns across the country!
