NAZEING Common Cricket Club celebrated their first league double for four seasons with wins over Thorley and Sawbridgeworth.

The Saturday 1st team lost the toss and were asked to bat first by Thorley. Cos Achillea dominated the innings scoring steadily before being caught one handed just 13 runs short of a maiden century.

Despite Paul Quinn’s golden duck, some excellent lower order hitting from Billy Rivers and Taylor boosted Nazeing’s score to 218-9. Thorley’s reply started slowly but soon accelerated. Opener Cowper scored an excellent 51 before veteran bowler Pete Barker snatched back control for the Common with an excellent spell of 3-31. With Thorley’s chase stalled, Nazeing were able to control the innings restricting the home side to just 175-8. Nazeing now sit fourth in the HEBL Premier Division.

The 2nd team recorded an excellent win at home, beating Sawbridgeworth 3rd XI by five wickets. Inspired by Tarun Seera (7-23), Nazeing bowled their opponents for just 83 runs. Nazeing’s reply was nothing if not exciting with 5 wickets falling in what could have been a slightly smoother chase. Returning captain Andy Humphrey said, “This was an excellent win. I’m delighted for Tarun. Hopefully we can push on now and string together some performances.” Nazeing 2s now sit second in the HEBL second division.
