TAKING inspiration from the 2023 exhibition Vitality: The Human Landscapes of Henry Moore, Henry Moore Studios & Gardens are inviting visitors to join a series of events and artist-led workshops that explore themes of vitality, natural energy and human form.

All events are included in an annual ticket to Henry Moore Studios & Gardens. Annual tickets are valid for 12 calendar months and can be used an unlimited number of times during open seasons.

Events for families & children

Sunday Soft Sculpt
Sundays, from 23 July until 28 August11:00–13:00 and 14:00–16:00Included in an annual ticketDrop in, no booking needed

Each Sunday during the summer holidays, you’ll find soft sculpting materials in the Sheep Field Barn at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens. Drop in and enjoy freely shaping, squishing, stacking, scaling, and balancing your own soft sculptures.

A friendly member of the team will be there to give you any help you might need. They can also show you some of Henry Moore’s original tools and share a little more about how he made his inspirational artworks that you’ll see during the rest of your visit.

This event is suitable for families with children of all ages, including under 5s.

Sensory/Sculptingwith Leap Then Look
Friday 28 July 11:30–13:30 and 14:30–16:30

This playful family workshop explores sensory approaches to sculpture, taking inspiration from Moore’s fascination with the hand and the spaces in between his artworks. Led by Leap Then Look, a collaboration between artists Lucy Cran and Bill Leslie who use playfulness, inquisitiveness and experimentation to create participatory projects for people of all ages.

Suitable for families with children aged 5+. This is an intergenerational workshop – we encourage creativity in all ages!

Collecting/Choreographywith Eva Louisa Jonas

Friday 25 August 11:30–13:30 and 14:30–16:30

Join artist Eva Louisa Jonas to think about the choreography of objects, collecting forms, shapes and movements as we go.

Beginning with a walk through the sculpture gardens, Eva will guide you to think about your body within the landscape. You’ll be encouraged to stretch, bend and extend like the sculptures and think about the shapes that the artworks are made of. Then you’ll return to the workshop space to create your own sculptures and a painted record of the workshop to take home.

Suitable for families with children aged 5+. This is an intergenerational workshop – we encourage creativity in all ages!

Open Archive: Human Landscapes
Wednesday 26 July 14:00–16:30

Visit the Henry Moore Archive, one of the largest single-artist archives in the world, to look in more detail at five sculptures from the Vitality: The Human Landscapes of Henry Moore exhibition.Using photos, letters, articles, publications, film, and audio recordings the extensive archive, you’ll gain insight into how these and related works fit into natural, man-made, and imaginary landscapes.

Growing/Wellbeing with Hackney Herbal

Friday 11 August
11:30–13:30 and 14:30–16:30Included in an annual ticket

Learn more about the healing properties of nature by by exploring the abundance of plants around Henry Moore’s gardens and the surrounding green spaces. Led by garden-based social enterprise Hackney Herbal, you’ll come to better understand the interplay between plants and people drawing on folklore, memories and stories to see how our relationships with the land around us is so important to our own wellbeing.

The workshop will weave in a variety of activities to engage all of our senses and will share ideas for simple remedy making, and plant seeds to take home.

This workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 16+

Drawing/Embodying with Laxmi Hussain
Saturday 19 August 11:30–13:30 and 14:30–16:30

Join artist Laxmi Hussain for a guided life drawing workshop, exploring the body and its transitions through life. Play with shape, form and instinctive use of line to create, and take inspiration from Moore’s own sculptures outdoors.

Laxmi will host an immersive experience, adding her signature lines directly on to the model’s own body, recognising their shape as they move through different positions; whilst conversationally guiding participants to consider how this connects to their own experiences and outcomes.

This workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 16+
