One Stop issue statement over future of post office in The Stow

A HARLOW shop has sought to reassure customers that their post office will not be closing.
Residents and local politicians have been in touch with YH over the possible closure of the post office in The Stow (see below).
A One Stop spokesperson said: “We want to reassure customers that the Post Office inside The Stow, Harlow One Stop store is not closing. Working together with the Post Office, the Mains format will change to a Local format, meaning the counter will be closer to the till making better use of retail space to enhance store operations.
Our banking, billing, postal and travel services will remain. We have made these changes to ensure we are becoming more efficient due to evolving customer needs. Customers may also be pleased to hear that the opening hours of our Post Office services will extend significantly – the new hours will be Monday to Sunday 8am until 8pm once the conversion has completed next Spring.”

Many branches offer extended opening hours outside core hours, with a slightly reduced range of services provided by general retail staff at retail counters. Post Office Locals Almost 4,000 post offices are PO Locals (33% of the network). These are smaller post offices integrated within retail premises such as a convenience store, shop or petrol station. Post Office and other services are transacted by general retail staff at a combined Post Office-retail counter. Locals provide a slightly reduced range of Post Office services for all the hours the retail outlet is open.

Although I don't use the Stow branch, I hope it survives. Since the closure of the main P.O. over near the Market Square, the so called service in the town centre has been abysmal. The branch in Smiths in the Town Centre rarely has more than one counter open, and I have queued for over half an hour sometimes, which is disgusting for a town this size. The Bush Fair branch always sems to have 2 counters open,. and never have to queue for very long. I really cannot see things getting any better for the Post offices or Royal Mail as so many people I know are switching the way they send letters (e-mail for example) & think the whole organisation is on borrowed time. Shot themselves in the foot is the saying.
