Happy New Year: Thanks to you all as we produce a record breaking year for Your Harlow

News / Sun 31st Dec 2023 at 03:29pm

THIS year will go down as a record breaking year for Your Harlow.

Since we launched on July 1st, 2013, YH has made its main commitment to be providing as much news about Harlow to its residents as possible.

So here we are, 32,000 plus stories later and still providing the news.

Yes, this has been a record breaking year for us in relation to page views. A whopping 5,816,455.

As you can see below, 2020 held the previous record but we always saw that year as a bit of an outlier as it was a Covid year. A year in which we produced over 2,000 stories on that subject alone.

In many ways, our editor Michael Casey summed up our new reporting when (earlier in the year) he was a guest lecturer at the University of East Anglia.

“On January 1st at 8am I was reporting at a pond that was part of a murder scene in Harlow.

On January 31st at 8am, I was reporting from another pond that was also part of that murder scene in Harlow.

“But between the two dates are 340 stories that paint a picture of life in Harlow in January 2023”.

And so we finish with record page views (5.8 million) but more importantly, a record number of stories (4,200)

Remember, we are a multi-platform digital newspaper. We no have over 15,000 followers on Facebook. That’s around 20% of the population of Harlow.

We also have over 2,200 subscribers to our Youtube channel. Special thanks to all those still watching the Vauxhall Zafira on fire film!

Our editor was delighted to be invited to No 10 Downing Street for a Local Media Heroes reception, where he was able to discuss YourHarlow and the future of local news with Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport of the United Kingdom, Lucy Frazer.

So we look forward to 2024. January 1st alway fees like the first page of a new book. We are looking forward to a General Election. We think it will be October 24th. But most of all, we look forward to reporting on the huge variety of events across the town.

We would like to thank all our advertiser and sponsors. Thank you for your on going support and commitment.

We would like to thank everyone who helps us produce the news every day. This really is a journalist in partnership with 100,000 people.

Happy New Year

Michael Casey
