Harlow MP Chris Vince takes part in debate on reforming House of Lords

Chris Vince / Wed 16th Oct 2024 at 12:14pm

HARLOW MP Chris Vince rose on the floor of the House of Commons to ask a minister a question on House of Lords reform.

Chris Vince asked: “Will the Minister update the House on the wider reforms that our Government are seeking to introduce to the House of Lords, and why these reforms should not be delayed by this specific Bill that, as Sir Gavin Williamson said, was widely supported by the electorate?

Nick Thomas-Symonds The Paymaster General and Minister for the Cabinet Office replied:

My hon. Friend makes an excellent point. As we look to the other reforms, from the retirement age to participation, the Government will look to build wide support on the way forward—support that, frankly, has not been found in previous attempts at reform. At its heart is the principle that people are placed in the House of Lords to serve the public, and I look forward to debating those wider reforms with Conservative Members, but not in this Bill.

Starting at 11:30am the same day questions were being taken by Health Secretary Wes Streeting. Out of 23 oral questions on the agenda, only one related to the New Hospital programme. This was presented by Conservative Sir Iain Duncan Smith of Chingford and Woodford. Not by Chris Vince who represents a town needing a new hospital. How many people give a damn about the House of Lords compared to getting a new hospital?

Why did it take Conservative Sir Iain Duncan Smith of Chingford & Woodford and Stella Creasey of Walthamstow to ask a question about the New Hospital Programme with reference to Whipps Cross, yet Chris Vince failed to ask anything about health and social care let alone replacing PAH?

II suspect Chris Vince only asks the questions he is told to ask. In fact I have it on good but dodgy authority that he is to be the new pilot of thunderbird 6

What was the Sir Keir Starmer's mantra when he was elected..ah yes, Freebies First, Party Second and I am sure there was a third thing but it was so far down his list...oh yes, country.

When will Chris Vince actually start debating about the New PAH, UKHSA Harlow, Oyster price train fares from Harlow to London, campaigning for Cross Rail 2 to include Harlow? Actual projects that specifically concern Harlow
