The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winner of its DAISY Awards® programme for May 2025.

The programme enables patients, families, and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care and to shine a spotlight on those who go the extra mile to ensure patients receive high-quality care and experiences.

For May, the DAISY Award® has been presented to Paige Solomons from Great Dunmow, a registered nurse in the children’s emergency department at PAHT.

Paige was nominated by a parent for the warm and compassionate care she gave to their one-year old son. The nomination cited how Paige made a difficult situation feel safer and more manageable, showing empathy and kindness in every interaction, how she placed their son’s wellbeing and comfort at the heart of everything she did and went above and beyond, not just clinically, but emotionally, to support the parents.

Sharon McNally, chief nurse and deputy chief executive and Giuseppe Labriola, deputy chief nurse, surprised Paige at work yesterday (19 August), presenting her with her DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, a copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls – a meaningful tradition of the award.

Sharon McNally said: “The nomination clearly demonstrates how Paige puts the patient at the heart of all she does, but also the importance she places on supporting the parents too.

“A very heartfelt thank you Paige for all you do to support patients and their relatives in your care.”

DAISY Award® winners also receive access to numerous professional development, education and wellness benefits as part of the programme.
