MICHAEL White, a 48-year-old runner from Harlow, has just completed one of the world’s most gruelling endurance events—the legendary Marathon des Sables in the Moroccan Sahara Desert. Taking place from April 2nd to 13th, the epic race saw Michael cover an astonishing 271.5 kilometres (about 168 miles) over six days, with the longest single stage stretching an incredible 62 miles through sand and scorching heat.

Competing against more than 1,300 runners from around the globe, Michael finished an impressive 244th overall, ranking 215th among men and achieving 21st place in his age category. What makes this feat even more remarkable is that he took on the challenge in support of the Essex Disabled Sports Foundation, raising over £9,000 to help make sports more accessible for people with disabilities.

Michael’s running achievements don’t stop there. He recently earned the prestigious Six Star Marathon Medal, a distinction awarded to athletes who complete all six of the world’s major marathons. Even after conquering the Sahara, Michael won’t have long to rest—he’s set to lace up his trainers again for the London Marathon, once more running in support of the Essex Disabled Sports Foundation.

Outside of his athletic pursuits, Michael is the owner of MG White Chartered Accountants, based at the Harlow Enterprise Hub on Edinburgh Way.

His dedication to both his community and his sport is truly inspiring, and his next race is sure to continue making a positive impact for those who need it most.
