IT was a near-perfect weekend for Harlow Town Cricket Club as all three sides collected maximum points to strengthen their positions across the Herts & Essex Border League.

The standout performances came at Ash Tree Field, where both the 1st and 2nd XIs produced dominant victories built on powerful batting displays and ruthless bowling.

The 1st XI continued their impressive Division Two campaign with a commanding 173-run victory over Little Munden. Taylor Wood set the tone with a fluent 76 before George Richardson stole the headlines with an unbeaten 82 from just 58 balls. Patrick Yates added a valuable 41 as Town amassed 288 for six. The visitors never recovered from an early collapse, with Anil Clarke claiming three wickets and Ronnie Yates starring with an excellent four for 18 as Little Munden were dismissed for 115.

Not to be outdone, the 2nd XI recorded an even more emphatic success in Division Three, defeating Stansted Hall & Elsenham by 215 runs. Darryl Pettengell lit up the afternoon with a breathtaking 89 from only 42 deliveries, while Gaurang Patel carried his bat for an unbeaten 91. The day’s most memorable moment belonged to Oliver Rowell, who at just 14 years of age reached his maiden adult half-century, finishing unbeaten on 50 in a mature and composed innings that underlined his considerable promise. Rowell then completed a memorable afternoon by taking two wickets as Town bowled their opponents out for 103.

The 3rd XI were denied the opportunity to take the field after Sawbridgeworth 4th XI conceded their Division Four fixture. While disappointing for the players, the awarded victory ensured another 20-point return and kept the Townies firmly on course in their own league campaign.

With 60 points collected from a possible 60 across the club, Harlow Town enjoyed one of their most successful weekends of the season.

Strong batting, disciplined bowling and emerging young talent combined to deliver a statement weekend for the Townies as the race for honours begins to take shape across all three divisions.
