Politics / Mon 22nd Jun 2026 at 08:53am

SIR Keir Starmer has announced he is resigning as prime minister.

He said he spoke to the King this morning to inform him of his decision to resign reports the BBC.

He has asked the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party to set out a timetable with nominations opening for the leadership on 9 July, and completed by the summer recess.

This will mean a new leader is in place before parliament returns in September.

Until then he will remain in post as prime minister, he says.

YH has requested a statement from Harlow MP Chris Vince and await a response.

Good riddance, the worst PM we have had in a long time and that's saying something given the terrible previous occupants stretching back to thatcher.
