A FLAG raising ceremony took place today (Monday 19 June 2023) at Harlow Civic Centre to mark Armed Forces Day.

Armed Forces Day, which takes place this year on Saturday 24 June, shows support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Armed Forces Day celebrations begin on Monday 19 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country.

Councillor Andrew Johnson, the Chair of Harlow Council, who led the ceremony, said:

“Raising the Armed Forces Day flag is a significant occasion that allows all of us to express our gratitude to the whole military community for their unwavering dedication to our great nation.

“We recognise the immense contribution of our serving military personnel, particularly Essex’s own 16th Air Assault Brigade based at Colchester, military families who support our troops and our Veterans. Their unwavering commitment and selfless sacrifice to our nation, both at home and abroad continue to ensure our and others liberty, safety and security.

“Let us take a moment from our busy lives to reflect on the bravery service of our armed forces past and present, who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding our nation; We owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid.”
