Blogpost: Mental Health is more than a small part of our lives

MENTAL health is more than a small part of our lives – it’s every moment of every day. It’s a hard day’s work and a catch-up with friends.  It’s when you become a parent and the day you lose someone you love. It’s the times you reach out for support and the years you spend on a waiting list.

Mental health matters on the days when everything happens and the days when nothing happens. When life is busy and unpredictable and when it’s quiet and ordinary too. Mental health affects us all differently, but it’s an important part of all our lives. And it doesn’t take a day off.

A spokesperson for World Mental Health Day said: “Friday was World Mental Health Day, but we want everyone to understand that mental health is important every day. Everyone deserves the right support when they need it, and no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. That’s why we at Mind in West Essex spend every day helping people who need it, tackling stigma and fighting for better mental health in Harlow and surrounding areas.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re calling on you to join the fight for mental health today, to support more people tomorrow. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Sign up for our Mental Elf festive fun run and walk in Harlow on December 7th to help raise funds and awareness. Or sponsor the event – corporate packages are available.
  • Fundraise for us through an event or challenge.
  • Learn how to better manage your mental health and support others. We offer a range of in-person and online training workshops, e-learning courses you can do in your own time and self-help resources via our MentalHealthTraining.org.uk website. Don’t miss our Mental Health Toolkit workshop in Harlow on November 11th (almost sold out!)
  • Donate to us, knowing that every penny will go towards services in your own community. We’re an independent and local charity, so when you support us, you’re helping your friends, family and neighbours.
  • Get involved by volunteering with us.

Visit MindInWestEssex.org.uk or follow us on social media to find out more about all of the above.
