IN April, the Over 60’s Men in Division 2, maintained their excellent start to the season. In the second round of fixtures, they were undefeated, beating Heybridge Swifts 1-0, then drawing 0-0 with Billericay Town White, before a convincing 4-0 win over Beacon Hill Rovers Blue to finish the day. Despite these fine results, Pirates slipped one place in the League to 3rd on goal difference but still only one point behind the leaders, Leyton Orient.

As in their first round of matches, the Over 65s Men in Division 1 had a mixed day. They started with a 4-0 defeat of Chelmsford City Blue, but were then beaten 0-2 by Southend Blue and then 2-3 by Billericay Town Blue. They recovered somewhat to draw their final fixture against Eastwood Falcons Yellow 1-1, which meant that they moved one place up the table to 7th of 10 teams.
In the Women’s Premier League, Pirates continued their good start to the season with a 2-0 win over Beacon Hill Rovers, followed by a 0-0 draw against Leyton Orient and a 2-0 victory over Valley Green Diamonds. However, a first defeat of the season to Billericay Town Blue (0-1) and then a 1-0 win over Hawkwell Athletic saw them slip to 2nd in the table, 4 points behind the leaders, Billericay Town Blue.
In the Women’s Championship, Pirates started with a 0-0 draw against Billericay Town Red, followed by a 2-0 win over Romford Randoms Yellow. Then came their first defeat of the season, 0-1 against Billericay Town White. Pirates regained form defeating Stanway Rovers (1-0) and Valley Green Emeralds (1-0). A 0-0 draw with Beacon Hill Rovers White was followed by a final win against Romford Randoms Blue 1-0. At the end of the day, Pirates had slipped to 2nd, 2 points behind the leaders, Billericay Town White.
Next to play were the Men’s Over 70s. They were up against tough opposition on the day and started by losing 0-2 to Chelmsford City Clarets, followed by a 0-1 defeat by Little Oakley. Their final match resulted in a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient Red. The latter was a rearranged match as their scheduled opponents Cheshunt were unable to field a team and so Pirates were awarded 3 points. This meant that they lost one place to go 5th in the league table.
In the Men’s Over 74s League, 3 Pirates played for the All Stars squad of 8 for the second round of fixtures. Their first match was against Norwich Soca which ended with a 0-1 defeat. The second against Billericay Town finished 0-0 and final match against Little Oakley saw another defeat by 0-2. The All Stars remained in 3rd place at the end of the day out of the 4 teams in the League.
